2016 JULY BALTPOOL ENERGY EXCHANGE: TRADE OVERVIEW
In July, the turnover of BALTPOOL biomass exchange increased to EUR 3.4 million and was by 30 percent higher than in June. Fifty-six percent of the contracts were concluded for the heating season. The price of biomass in the next heating season is forecasted to remain similar to the last season’s price.
Although the supply of woodchips in July still exceeds the demand, there are no signs that the prices of biomass would decrease even more. On the contrary, they started growing little by little, when heat produces rushed to ensure supplies of biomass for the coming winter. The value of purchase orders in the biomass exchange increased to EUR 30 million in July, of them the orders in the amount of EUR 22.8 million were placed for the heating season 2016.
The auction of the state forest enterprises of the second half of this year also shows that the biomass prices should not drop. The average weighted value of long-term contracts concluded during this auction increased by 17 percent.
