Heat producers start preparations for the next heating season

In April, before the end of the 2016–2017 heating season, the first transactions for the 2017–2018 winter season were concluded in the biomass exchange: 1,716 TOE of woodchips were purchased in Utena County. The biomass was purchased for 132.73 EUR/TOE, which is 5.11% cheaper than the average price of biomass in the same county during the preceding heating season (139.87 EUR/TOE).

The overall turnover of the biomass exchange in April dropped by 45% compared to March and amounted to EUR 2.3 million. This was mostly due to the dropped number of long-term transactions: the values of these, compared to March, dropped more than three times – from EUR 2.2 million to EUR 0.69 million. The value of short-term transactions dropped by 17% and amounted to EUR 1.51 million. The fairly high value of short-term transactions was due to the longest heating season over the past decade (this year, the heating season continued throughout April in most municipalities).
