July 2018 Energy Exchange: Trade Overview
The value of the BWC SPOT Lithuania index published by BALTPOOL UAB shows that the prices under one-week transactions have been growing since May. In July, the value of the index increased from 151.94 EUR/toe to 177.65 EUR/toe. For comparison, a similar figure was recorded in November last year.
According to biomass suppliers, the growth of biomass prices occurs due to objective reasons, i.e. the increasing price of diesel fuel, growing salaries and the significant increase in the price of raw materials. The timber auction for the second half of 2018 held in May by regional units of the State Enterprise State Forests Directorate demonstrated that the price of timber harvesting waste (in cleared space) used in the biomass industry (10.65 EUR/ m3) has increased by 21%, while the price of class II and class III calorific value firewood has increased by 28% (30.03 EUR/m3).
The monthly change in the price of timber sold at short-term auctions in July shows that the price of timber harvesting waste increased by 27% (17.20 EUR/m3), while the price of class II and class III calorific value firewood increased by 9% (31.68 EUR/m3).
