May 2018 Overview of Timber Trading
OVERVIEW OF LONG-TERM AND HALF-YEAR AUCTIONS
The long-term and half-year auctions of the 2nd half of 2018 organised by regional divisions of the State Enterprise State Forests Directorate were completed on 29 May 2018. At the auctions, 586,430 m3 of timber was sold, of which 526,340 m3 accounted for round timber and 60,080 m3 accounted for timber harvesting residues. Regional divisions of the State Enterprise State Forests Directorate sold 99.42% of the planned amount (589,860 m3).
Half-year auction of the second half of 2018
- 562,600 m3 of timber was sold during the half-year auction of the 2nd half of the year, which is a 6% decrease compared to the auction of the 1st half of the year (601,580 m3). Of the amount sold, 506,300 m3 accounted for round timber and 56,300 m3 accounted for timber harvesting residues.
- The financial value of transactions of the half-year auction of the 2nd half of the year amounted to EUR 28,851,000. The weighted prices of sold timber rose for all assortments except sawlogs.
Long-term auction of the 2nd half of 2018
- 23,800 m3 of timber was sold at the long-term auction of the 2nd half of the year, which is a 94% decrease compared to the long-term auction of the 1st half of the year (386,600 m3). Of the amount sold, 20,000 m3 accounted for round timber and 3,800 m3 accounted for timber harvesting residues.
- Timber for EUR 914,000 was sold at the long-term auction of the 2nd half of the year. The weighted price of timber increased for all assortments except sawlogs.
OVERVIEW OF SHORT-TERM AUCTIONS
In May 2018, regional divisions of the State Enterprise State Forests Directorate sold 44,100 m3 of timber at 74 short-term auctions, i.e. the trade volumes doubled in the course of one month. The financial value of the transactions amounted to EUR 916,100.
Sawlogs were the most demanded product – 15,800 m3 of this was sold; 9,600 m3 accounted for pulpwood and 5,700 m3 accounted for firewood.
The weighted price of timber sold via the ETTS in May 2018 increased by 7% compared to April 2018, i.e. from 44.26 EUR/m3 to 47.35 EUR/m3. Compared to May 2017, last year timber was sold at auctions for a 25% lower weighted price, i.e. 37.75 EUR/m3.
